Nailbox

Overview

In completing this exercise you will

  • create new design for each component
    • create new sketches on principal planes
    • attach sketch to a surface
    • draw
      • rectangles
      • lines
      • circles
    • apply constraints
    • create extrusions to
      • add material
      • remove material
  • create and assembly design
    • duplicate components
    • fix component
    • align components
    • mate components
  • create an album
  • create an assembly drawing

In the following steps the words in bold are the names of components

Create design for side

  • new design
  • new sketch on frontal plane - change name to profile
  • draw rectangle
  • constrain to 200 long - 75 high
  • extrude 12
  • select front surface of extrusion
  • add new sketch - change name to router
  • view onto new workplane (Shift w)
  • draw two rectangles for end rebates
    • start at top corner
    • stretch inward and down to the base line
    • [this automatically constrains the height to that of the existing side]
  • draw rectangle for housing joint
    • start on top line [avoid the centre as it will constrain the new line]
    • stretch down and across to bottom line
    • [this will constrain the height of the rectangle to that of the side]
  • apply width constraints of 12 to each of the rectangles
  • apply positioning constraint for housing joint - 94 from end
  • extrude below workplane to remove material to depth of 6
  • save as side

Create design for handle

  • new design
  • new sketch on lateral plane - change name to profile
  • draw rectangle
  • constrain to 200 wide - 150 high
  • view onto sketch (Shift w)
  • draw two circles for hole
  • constrain to diameter 25
  • constrain circles to 30 from sides and top
  • draw two lines tangent to circles
  • trim internal half of circle
    • notice constraints go green - indicates redundant constraint
  • draw curves on corner
  • constrain to diameter 50
  • re-constrain width to 100
  • extrude 12
  • save as handle

Create Assembled design

Add sides and ends to design

  • new design
  • Assembly menu - add component - select side
  • Edit menu - duplicate - spacing 100
  • select one side and move away
  • select one side and from Assemble menu select fix component
  • Assembly menu - add component - end
  • Edit menu - duplicate - spacing 100
  • select one end and move away

Side added to design then duplicated - one side fixed

Ends added and duplicated

  • Click for enlargement select inside surface of mated end and matching surface of rebate on fixed side
  • Assemble menu - mate
  • Click for enlargement select the end of the attached end component and the matching rebate of the second side
  • Assemble menu - mate
  • Click for enlargement select top surfaces of fixed end and second side
  • Assemble menu - align
  • Click for enlargementselect inside surface of end and matching surface of rebate on side
  • Assemble menu - mate

  • mate and align the second end
