ProDesktop 3D Modelling

Salad Server Spoon

Overview

In completing this exercise you will

  • create new design:
    • create sketches on base and lateral planes
    • draw
      • splines
      • lines
    • constrain a line to a fixed position
    • mirror lines and spline to form a symmetrical profile
    • trim lines
    • create thin extrusion
    • create an extrusion to remove material
    • round the edges of surfaces
  • create an album

Creating the design

This example is constructed in three main steps:

  • create the basic side profile of the spoon
  • remove unnecessary material to leave the spoon profile
  • round edges

Create a new design

Side Profile

  • add a new sketch to the lateral plane - name the sketch profile
  • view onto the new plane (press Shift + w)
  • draw the profile of the side of the spoon
    • select the spline tool
    • commence at coordinate 0,0
    • draw points to the right until approximately is reached

Create initial profile

  • from the feature menu select extrude profile or click the icon
  • make the following settings
    • thin
    • thickness 6mm
    • add material
    • below work plane
    • distance 100mm

Top Profile

This operation consists of four main steps

  • select the initial sketch on the base workplane
  • create a half profile of the spoon
  • mirror the shape
  • extrude the shape to remove excess material

  • Select the initial sketch on the base workplane

Create half profile

  • select the line tool
  • commence the vertical axis at (-50, -20) - hold SHIFT key for vertical line
  • stop the vertical axis at approximately (-50, 320)
  • select the line then
    • constraints menu - toggle fixed (stops line moving)

  • select the spline tool
  • commence on the axis
  • draw the half profile
  • end on the axis

  • from the ends of the axis draw two horizontal lines
  • draw one vertical line to overlap the two horizontal lines
  • select the trim tool
  • trim all overhanging ends of the three new lines

Mirror the half profile lines

  • from the line menu select mirror

  • click on the Axes tab in the dialog box
    • click on the vertical axis

  • click on the Lines tab
    • hold down the SHIFT key and click on
      • the spline
      • the horizontal line at the top
      • the vertical line
      • the bottom horizontal line

  • click the OK button to complete the mirror process

  • delete the vertical axis line to produce a valid profile

  • from the features menu select extrude or click

  • make the following settings on the extrude dialog box
    • sketch to use as profile is initial
    • Subtract material
    • Symmetrical about workplane
    • distance 50m
  • Click the OK button to complete the extrusion

Album

  • create a new album
  • Image menu - new image - select SaladSpoon design
  • Tools menu - materials browser
  • open non- metals
  • click the icon then drag to the spoon
  • click the update button
  • click on the spoon to select it
  • from the Image menu select set material properties
  • click Set Colour
  • make a colour selection
  • click the update button
  • From the File menu select save then save as SaladSpoon
