Sweep along a helix

In creating a helix you will:

  • create one or more new sketches
  • create a line to be used as an axis
  • create a valid profile to use for the profile of the helix
  • generate a helix

Creating a Helix

Helix to add material

To create a helix to add material

  • create a new sketch to contain the axis - name the sketch axis

  • Create a new line on the axis sketch to represent the axis of the helix

    • NOTE the length of the line will determine the length of the helix

  • create a new sketch to contain the profile of the helix - name the sketch profile

  • on the profile sketch, draw a valid profile

  • apply constraints as required to the:

    • size of the profile and

    • the distance from the axis to the profile

  • from the Features menu select Sweep profile then along helix

  • in the dialog box

    • ensure that the Pro Desktop has selected the correct sketches for the profile and axis

    • enter the taper angle if required

  • click and drag the yellow handle to generate a pitch OR

    • specify the pitch exactly in the dialog box

  • click OK to create the helix

Removing material with a helix

Helix to remove material

To create a helix to remove material from a model

  • create new sketches for the helix axis and profile

  • create a sketch for the parent material model

  • create the helix axis on the axis sketch

  • create the helix profile on the profile sketch

  • create the parent material profile

  • apply constraints as required to the:

    • size of the helix profile

    • the distance from the helix axis to the helix profile

    • the size of the parent material profile

  • extrude the parent material

  • from the Features menu select Sweep profile then along helix

  • in the dialog box

    • ensure that the Pro Desktop has selected the correct sketches for the profile and axis

    • select subtract material

  • click and drag the yellow handle to generate a pitch

  • if necessary, specify the pitch exactly in the dialog box

  • click OK to create the helix
