How to Shell

To shell a model you will:

  • create a profile
  • extrude the profile
  • select one or more faces
  • shell the model
 
Shelling as the name implies, is the process of removing material from inside a model to leave a shell.  

 

It is possible to create a shell which:

  • does not remove any outside surfaces

  • removes one or more outside surfaces

 
   

To create a shell which is completely internal:

  • create a model

  • click in the open design screen to deselect all models

  • from the Features menu select Shell

  • EITHER in the dialog box, enter a value for the wall thickness of the shell

  • OR click and drag the yellow handle on the model to indicate wall thickness

  • click OK to complete the operation

To create a model with one face removed by the shell:

  • create a model

  • use the Select Face tool to select one face of the model

  • from the Features menu select Shell

  • EITHER in the dialog box, enter a value for the wall thickness of the shell

  • OR click and drag the yellow handle on the model to indicate wall thickness

  • click OK to complete the operation

 

 

 

Creating a shell to remove one face


To create a model with more than one face removed by the shell:

  • create a model

  • use the Shift key with the Select Face tool to select the faces to be removed

  • from the Features menu select Shell

  • EITHER in the dialog box, enter a value for the wall thickness of the shell

  • OR click and drag the yellow handle on the model to indicate wall thickness

  • click OK to complete the operation
