How to Project

Overview

Project allows you to create a solid feature or remove material between a profile and the surface of another solid feature.

The example shown to the right shows:

  • a deformed surface model which has been shelled
  • a projected surface added to the model

Note

  • that the projected surface does not penetrate through the shell
  • this effect could not be achieved using an extrusion

Example of projection

Projecting through to the next face

This allow you to add material to shelled models without the new material penetrating the shell.

To create a projection

  • create the base object

  • create a workplane and a sketch for the projection profile

  • create a valid profile for the projection

  • from the Features menu select Project Profile

  • in the dialog box make the following settings

    • check that the following automatic selections are correct:

      • the name of the projection

      • the sketch which contains the profile for the projection

      • the direction of projection

      • the extent of the projection

      • add or subtract material

      • the taper angle where required

    • click OK to complete the projection
