Loft

 

Lofting is the process of connecting profiles created on different workplanes to produce a model.

In completing a lofted design you will:

A Simple loft

To loft through two profiles:

  • create the first profile on a sketch

  • create a new workplane for the second profile

    • from the workplane menu select New Workplane
    • check the offset box
    • drag the workplane to the desired position by moving the yellow handle

  • from the Workplanes menu select New Sketch - name the new sketch appropriately

  • view onto the new workplane (Shift key + w)

  • draw the profile for the top of the loft

  • click away from the drawing to deselect all lines

  • from the Features menu select Loft through Profiles

  • click on the bottom profile to add it to the Profiles list

  • click on the top profile to add it to the Profiles list

    NOTE Pro Desktop joins the two profile with a "loft line" which defines the joining surface

  • click OK to complete the operation

Draw profile for the top surface then

deselect all lines

Commence the loft process -

Select the base to add to the Profile list

Click the top to add to the Profile list

Three profile loft

  • create the first profile on a sketch

  • create a new workplane for the second profile

    • from the Workplane menu select New Workplane
    • check the offset box
    • drag the workplane to the desired position by moving the yellow marker

  • from the Workplanes menu select New Sketch - name the new sketch appropriately

  • view onto the new workplane (SHIFT key + w)

  • draw the profile for the top of the loft

  • click away from the drawing to deselect all lines

  • from the Features menu select Loft through Profiles

  • click on the bottom profile to add it to the Profiles list

  • click on the middle profile to add it to the Profiles list

    NOTE 1 Pro Desktop joins the two profile with a "loft line" which defines the joining surface

  • NOTE 2 if the profiles have corners, the loft line will have a yellow handle check that Pro Desktop has joined the two profiles without introducing an unwanted twist

    • if a the loft line is is twisted, drag the yellow handle to the correct corner

  • click on the top profile to add it to the Profiles list

  • click the OK button to complete the operation

Crete sketch on new workplane

Create profile on second workplane

Create next workplane

Create a sketch on the new workplane

Create the profile on the top workplane

Commence loft - select bottom profile

Select middle profile -

Note in this example loft line is incorrectly aligned

Drag yellow handle of the loft line to correct the corner

Select the top profile
