Extrusion Problems

Invalid profile

Extrusions may only be created using a valid profile.

When an invalid profile is used, an error is created

When extruding a profile which is not valid, a yellow and black danger tape is strung around the offending part. Move the extrude dialog box to see the tape.

Attempting to extrude and invalid profile will produce an error dialog box

  • choose UNDO to abort the extrusion (the best option on most occasions)

  • choose CLOSE to complete an extrusion which does not work (not advisable)

  • choose SUPPRESS to continue the operation but set the extrusion to be unused (not recommended)

  • choose REDEFINE to return to the extrusion dialog box to fix direction or thickness of thin errors

To see how to test for a valid profile see Troubleshooting profiles in the window that opens.

Profile misses model when extruded

An example of the situation where this error is generated is illustrated below:

  • a new workplane and sketch is created above the solid

  • circle drawn on the new workplane for extruded hole (approximately in center of top surface)

  • extrusion attempted but failed

Reason

view onto workplane (Shift key + w) reveals that the profile (red circle) did not overlap the model
