Overview

Numbering of paragraphs is particularly important in legal documents. Numbering can easily be applied to paragraphs but can become very complicated.

 
   

Applying numbering quickly

To apply automatic numbering quickly:

  • select the paragraphs to be numbered
  • from the toolbar click on the icon

To change the level of a paragraph

  • place the cursor in the paragraph
  • on the toolbar click the indent button
  • To reverse increase the level of a paragraph
  • place the cursor in the paragraph
  • on the toolbar click the outdent button

To take control of numbering

To gain more control can be gained over the look of your numbering:

  • type the paragraphs
  • indent or outdent the paragraphs to the required level
  • select the paragraphs to be numbered
  • from the Format menu select Bullets and Numbering
  • click on the Numbering tab for standard numbering or the Outline Numbered tab for levels of numbering
  • select the format required
  • click the OK button to complete the operation
