Overview

 

Bullets are used to draw the readers attention to a particular paragraph or to indicate a series of points.

  • the dot at the start of this line is a bullet
  • bullets commonly use a character from a font but it is also possible to use a picture for a bullet
  • bullets may be quickly inserted using the toolbar icon
  • more control can be gained by inserting and modifying the bullet via the Format menu

Quick bullets

To apply bullets to text quickly

  • place the cursor in the paragraph or select the paragraphs
  • click the icon on the toolbar

Taking control of bullets

To insert bullets which are not the default:

 

 
  • select the text to be bulleted
 
  • from the Format menu select Bullets and numbering
 

 

  • click on the desired bullet
  • click the OK button

Even more bullets

To see a far wider range of bullets from which to select you may either choose from picture buttons or fonts such as Windings .

To select a bullet from a Font:

  • from the Bullets and Numbering dialog box shown to the right click on the button

 

 

 

  • from the Customize Bullet List box click on the button
 

 

  • select a suitable font from the drop down list
  • click on the required character
  • click the OK button to return to the Bullets and Numbering dialog box

Using a picture for a bullet

To use a prepared picture:

  • from the Bullets and Numbering dialog box click
  • from the Picture Bullet dialog box select a bullet as shown to the right
  • click on the insert picture button (roll mouse over picture to right for close-up)
  • click OK

Changing colour and size

To change the colour and/or size of bullets:

  • from the Bullets and Numbering dialog box click
  • from the Font dialog box choose the Font style, Size or Font color as shown to the right
  • click the OK button to return to the Bullets and Numbering dialog box

Moving bullets

To adjust the position of the bullets and the following text:

  • from the Bullets and Numbering dialog box choose
  • using the Customize Bullet List shown to the right
    • set the bullet position
    • set the text position
  • observe the result in the Customize Bullet List box as seen to the right for this example
  • click OK to return to the Bullets and Numbering dialog box
 

 

 


Positioning bullets using the tabs bar

It is also possible to control the position of bullets and text using the tabs and indents on the tab bar.

To move the bullet and text:

  • select the paragraphs to be changed
  • in the horizontal ruler click and drag the indent and/or tab markers
