There are a number of different ways to open a document which already exists including:

 

 

 

Open recent document from the Start menu

Recently use documents can be seen in teh Documents folder from the Start menu

NOTE this may not be the case on a computer network

Recent document from inside Word

If you already are using Microsoft Word, recent documents are listed at the bottom of the file menu.

To open one of these files:

  • open the File menu with a left mouse click
  • click on the required document with the left mouse button

Opening files from inside Word

To open files which are not shown on the recent list:

  • from the file menu select Open OR
  • click on the open icon on the toolbar OR
  • use the shortcut key combination of Ctrl + O
 

 

 

the Open dialog box as shown on the right will be displayed

 

  • Navigate to the folder containing the file
  • double click on the file OR
  • select the file and click the Open button

Using My Documents or My Computer

Word files, like other types of files can be opend from either My Documents or using My Computer from the desktop

To open file:

  • double click the icon on the desktop
  • navigate to the folder containing the file
  • double click on the file to open it
